Orff and Mid Level

On November 20th, as part of the Nebraska Music Educators' Conference, Thayer Central students took part in both the Mid-Level All State Choir and the Elementary Orff Ensemble.

Ceres Lemke-Koch and Addysen Cast auditioned for and were accepted into the Mid-Level Choir. These two students practiced their music on their own and after school in the weeks leading up to the event and the spent the day rehearsing in the Lied Center in Lincoln with acclaimed composer and conductor Greg Gilpin. That evening, the approximately 200 students put on a concert to showcase all of their hard work! We are so proud of Ceres and Addysen!

At the same time as the Mid-Level choir was rehearsing, the Elementary Orff Ensemble was rehearsing just down the street. 5th grade students Calvin Johnson and Delaney Farnstrom were nominated to participate in this event where students sing, move, and play various barred instruments. Students practiced three pieces ahead of time but also learned three more on the day! Orff emphasizes building musicianship in every learner through the integration of music, movement, speech, and drama and Calvin and Delaney got to experience all of those things! They had a very cool experience making music with about 80 other 4th-5th grade students from all over the state!
