On January 8th, the Thayer Central Speech Team began their 2021-2022 campaign at the Adams Central Speech Meet in Hastings. While the Titan Talkers brought only a portion of their team, they performed in a way to make Titanland proud.
Leading the way for Thayer Central was Senior Jasa Wiedel, who earned overall champion in Varsity Persuasive Speaking. Entertainment proved to be a power event for Thayer Central, with Juniors Halle Pulliam and Beth Poisel winning 2nd and 3rd places, respectively, in the Varsity Competition and Sophomore Ella Murray winning runner-up in the Novice division. Senior Megan Lukert earned 6th Place in Varsity Informative, and Junior Laiken Mumm won 2nd Place in Novice Poetry.
“It was important to get out and just start competing,” said Thayer Central Coach Justin Bomar. “We’re happy with results, but more importantly at this stage of the season is to get feedback from judges. Adams Central’s meet has always been good for that feedback.”
The Titan Speech Team will next compete on January 15th at Fairbury High School before their home meet on January 22nd.
