On Saturday, February 19th, the Thayer Central Speech Team traveled to Sutton for the annual Mustang Invite. The Titan Talkers came away with an impressive showing at the right time of the year, medaling 15 of 19 total entries at the meet.
Leading the way for Thayer Central were a trifecta of event champions. Senior Jasa Wiedel won the Persuasive Event, Juniors Jordan Mariska and Lindsay Johnson won Duet Acting, and Mariska added his own individual championship in Extemporaneous Speaking. Entertainment proved a strong event for Thayer Central as Sophomore Ella Murray earned 2nd Place, Junior Beth Poisel placed 3rd, and Junior Halle Pulliam won 9th. Pulliam also placed 5th in Humorous Prose. Senior Megan Lukert came away with 3rd in Informative, one place ahead of Freshman Adam Lukert in 4th Place. Sophomore Elle Sudbeck won 4th in Poetry. Junior Krista Hartley double-medaled, winning 4th in Extemporaneous and 7th in Poetry. Junior Madison Hammer came in 6th in Serious Prose. Junior Ava Wiedel earned 7th in Humorous Prose. Rounding out the medals for Thayer Central was Junior Laiken Mumm, who placed 9th in Poetry.
“This team is really hitting the right notes at the right time,” said Thayer Central Coach Justin Bomar. “We’re not perfect yet, but many students took major strides this week.”
Thayer Central will split up the squad on Saturday, February 26th, sending competitors to both the Southern Nebraska Conference Meet in Milford and McCool Junction for their invite. Then the Titans will compete at the C2-4 District Meet in McCool Junction on Friday, March 4th.
